Curbing Freedom in the name of Safety is a losing bet.
In its headlong scramble to avoid the propounded effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus Canadian society has gambled everything on safety.
Whether by design or by convenience, a sinister trend has emerged in the response employed by our government in dealing with this virus.
From the news that 33 million Canadian phones were tracked in what would appear to be an attempt to establish a “Pandemic Surveillance” system, to the shocking admission that our own military conducted a Psy-Op on us to “test out propaganda techniques on an unsuspecting public”, our rights have been subjected to a previously unimaginable level of infringement.
In Czechoslovakia during what was described as a Post-Totalitarian State citizens lived under a system in which the actions of the state were completely self-serving and rights were arbitrarily trampled at the whim of the ruling party. Their response was to assemble Charter 77:
“a loose, informal and open association of people of various shades of opinion, faiths and professions united by the will to strive individually and collectively for the respecting of civic and human rights in our own country and throughout the world”
I would propose that we are in a Pre-Totalitarian State and unless we organize and reaffirm the rights we already have we may soon be too far down the path of authoritarianism to democratically reverse our course.
It’s time for a Charter 22.
